PUPIL VOICE

Children are the heart of our school. We believe in listening to our pupils in the classroom and beyond, giving every child the confidence to fulfil their potential.

'Learning is taking ideas into your mind - it's thinking about things that are happening, not just school subjects but about the world'

'It's experimenting - half the stuff you learn is from your mistakes'

'Learning is about asking questions and adults don't always know the answers'

At Dulwich Hamlet we believe in providing children with the opportunity to grow as individuals by encouraging them to follow their passions and helping them to grow in confidence. As pupils move up the school they take increasing responsibility for helping to make the school environment a happy and welcoming place to be. The year 5s help to keep the library orderly and tidy, whilst our Year 6s take on all sorts of roles, including managing the class recycling system and helping the kitchen team at lunchtimes. But we also offer a range of formal positions of responsibility as laid out below. School Council, House Captains, Sports Mentors, Music Mentors and Eco Council all play vital roles in ensuring that pupil voice is heard loud and clear at Dulwich Hamlet.

HOUSES

On joining the school, every pupil will be allocated to one of four houses:

Garnet Earth
Ruby Fire
Sapphire Air
Topaz Water

Our house system was developed in direct response to children's requests, and encourages vertical relationships to be formed from Year 3 to Year 6
