WELLBEING
Our Vision
Dulwich Hamlet is a school where:
The community considers the wellbeing of all stakeholders in everyday practices.
Everyone in the community is committed to removing the stigma attached to mental health by emphasising that everyone has mental health.
Everyone in the community shares an understanding of how we talk about mental health.
Everyone in the community has access to mental health first aid and, where necessary, is signposted to additional and/ or external services.
Our Practice
At Dulwich Hamlet Junior School, we make mental health and wellbeing a priority for our pupils, staff, parents and carers and wider community. In developing our strategy, we have worked with children’s charity Place2Be to provide a wide range of whole-school, group and individual education and support for children, helping them to understand and manage their mental health and wellbeing.
For everyone:

For everyone:
- A wide-ranging PSHE curriculum that emphasises emotional literacy, mental and physical health, self-image and awareness, positive relationships and community involvement
- Whole-class mindfulness activities to encourage reflection and emotional awareness
- Raising the profile and reducing the stigma of mental health and wellbeing by celebrating national and international events such as World Mental Health Day and Children’s Mental Health Week
For those who choose to use it:
- A variety of lunchtime clubs and activities that provide structure and promote positive interactions between peers
- Reporting boxes and Playground Mentors that provide children with a range of routes to share their feelings and seek support from staff and peers
- Trained Mental Health First Aiders on duty at lunch times, easily recognised by their bright pink 'Here to Talk' vests
For those who need additional support:
- Targeted in-school input for children who could benefit from additional support with their mental health and wellbeing, through Learning Coaching, Talking and Drawing and other interventions
- Effective working relationships with external services, including CAMHS, and signposting parents and carers to additional support

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2023
To celebrate World Mental Health Day this year, we held a whole-school assembly to introduce the important theme of 2023's celebration: mental health is a universal human right.
We spent some time unpicking the vocabulary and getting to grips with what this statement means for us, for our school community, and for people around the world. To reinforce our understanding of the key message, we spent time in classes on beautiful mindful colouring, reminding ourselves that whoever you are, and whatever you're experiencing, your mental health matters.
In order to involve our whole school community, including parents and carers, we set a special World Mental Health Day homework, focused around important and sometimes tricky conversations about what's on our minds. This gave children the opportunity to open up a conversation with their grown ups about how they feel - something that can be so difficult to do.
Take a look at the fantastic, colourful work below and remember - at Dulwich Hamlet, everyone's mental health matters!
