ADMISSIONS
Dulwich Hamlet Junior School is a non-selective and fully-inclusive community school catering for children aged 7 to 11. The main criteria for entry, under which most children are admitted to the school, is distance.
Applications for September entry to Year 3 are managed by Southwark Council via the eAdmissions website. For detailed information on the application process please see the Southwark website. Children born between 1st September 2017 and 31st August 2018 will be eligible for September 2025 entry to the school. Applications open on 1st September 2024 and close on 15th January 2025. ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
Pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan will be given special consideration based on their plan. Looked after or previously looked after children will then have priority admission, followed by siblings of pupils who will remain on roll at time of entry. Children who have a specific social, medical or psychological need will then be considered.
This will be followed by children of all permanent staff members (see policy for full details) and finally, priority will then be given to children who live closest to the school on the basis of straight line distance. This is measured from the school Reception on Dulwich Village to the child's home address. |

Admissions Policy Consultation for Y3 September 2026 Entry.
We are pleased to share the outcomes of our recent admissions consultation, which has led to the approval of our Admissions Policy 2026-2027 by the Dulwich Hamlet Local Governing Body.
This consultation process, enriched by valuable feedback from governors and a small number of stakeholders, has led to the following key amendments to our admissions arrangements:
During the consultation, three responses expressed concerns about naming DVIS as a feeder school. Over recent years, DVIS has not filled all of its 45 foundation (faith) places, with the same placements at Dulwich Hamlet Junior School (DHJS) being offered based on proximity (as seen in September 2024). However, with the dynamic nature of school admissions, we are committed to fairness and transparency. Our governors will continue to monitor admissions trends closely in the coming years to identify any significant shifts in place allocation.
We hope that this policy for September 2026 and onwards provides future DVIS parents with a sense of security regarding their child’s potential educational pathway from Reception through to Year 6, should they choose to apply for a Y3 place at DHJS. This continuity aims to offer stability for families and, most importantly, for children.
We extend our thanks to our community for your ongoing support and collaboration. Your input is invaluable as we strive to ensure an equitable admissions process for all.

This consultation process, enriched by valuable feedback from governors and a small number of stakeholders, has led to the following key amendments to our admissions arrangements:
- Named Feeder School: We have designated Dulwich Village Infants’ Church of England School (DVIS) as a named feeder school
- Alignment with Trust Policy: Our criteria now align with other schools within The Charter Schools Educational Trust concerning admissions for permanent staff members

CATCHMENT AREA
We do not have a catchment area as such; children who live closest to the school on the basis of straight line measurement will be admitted, so the 'catchment' changes every year. Below are details of the furthest distances in metres from the past few years.
APPLYING DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR
If you wish to apply for your child mid-way through the school year you must complete an in year application form via the eAdmissions website.
|
Parents should note that while we continue to be over-subscribed at the main point of starting DHJS i.e. Year 3, places can become available throughout the school year. As such, we encourage parents to make an in year application so that their child is placed on a waiting list.
|
WAITING LIST
The school maintains a waiting list for children who have been unsuccessful in gaining a place, whether making a Year 3 application or an in year application to another year group.
Parents may keep their child's name on the waiting list for as long as they wish. |
The waiting list is ordered in accordance with our admissions criteria, not from the date an application was made, so a child's position on the list may alter depending on additional applicants.
