MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
At Dulwich Hamlet School we nurture children’s curiosity about language, etymology, grammar and culture so as to help them to become part of an international community. In French lessons, we understand that learning occurs in small steps. For that reason, we create a strong foundation in phonics to support children’s understanding of the building blocks of the French language. Children become confident in their pronunciation as well as associating phonemes with graphemes in order to learn how to write and spell. The curriculum is rooted in retrieval so children have the opportunity to regularly revisit previous learning and build on their skills. We embed songs, stories and games to give children lots of opportunities to practise their language in meaningful ways.
