Our Approach to Behaviour and Relationships

A school built on positive relationships

At Dulwich hamlet, we know that behaviour improves when children feel valued and connected. We prioritise getting to know each child –what motivates them, what worries them, what excites them, and what might influence their behaviour.

We build trusted relationships, through consistent, positive interactions and provide emotional support, to help our children build resilience and the ability to deal with difficult situations.

A positive environment

where

every

child thrives

At Dulwich Hamlet, we believe in nurtuting positive behaviour for life.

Our focus is on instilling the core values of Dulwich Hamlet which guide our students’ actions both in and outside the classroom. These values are actively referenced in lessons, assemblies, and everyday interactions with the children.

Praise and Rewards

We recognise that praise is one of the most effective ways to encourage good behaviour and choices. Praise is highly valued at Dulwich Hamlet, and it is always specific, meaningful, and sincere.

In addition to praise, we use a variety of rewards to celebrate and motivate students.
These include:
Headteacher Awards
Achievement Certificates
Values Certificates
House Points
Additional Responsibilities
Positive Feedback & Praise

Supporting Positive Behaviour

We teach behaviour proactively

We are explicit about boundaries, routines and behaviours, ensuring that we always have high expectations of our Hamleteers. When mistakes happen, these are treated as learning opportunities and children take ownership of their own next steps, making sure they have an opportunity to repair and restore. We teach children about natural consequences and apply logical consequences to support good behaviour
