Wellbeing at Dulwich Hamlet

A supportive, nurturing environment

for

your

child

At Dulwich Hamlet Junior School, we believe that wellbeing is the foundation for success.

We are committed to creating an environment where every member of our community—pupils, staff, parents, and carers—feels supported, understood, and empowered to take care of their mental health.

Our Wellbeing Vision for every child

We strive to nurture a culture where:

  • Wellbeing is embedded in our everyday practices.
  • Mental health is openly discussed, free from stigma.
  • Everyone shares a common language to talk about mental health.
  • Support is readily available, with clear pathways to additional services when needed.

Embedding Wellbeing in School Life

We prioritise mental health through:

  • A comprehensive PSHE curriculum focusing on emotional literacy, self-awareness, and positive relationships.
  • Whole-class mindfulness activities to encourage self-reflection.
  • School-wide participation in events like World Mental Health Day to raise awareness.

Providing Accessible Support

For those seeking extra wellbeing support, we offer:

  • A variety of lunchtime clubs that foster positive peer interactions.
  • Anonymous reporting boxes and Playground Mentors as safe spaces for sharing concerns.
  • Trained Mental Health First Aiders, easily recognisable in their 'Here to Talk' vests.
  • Weekly access to an on-site Art Therapist.
  • Child-Led Conflict Resolution: We encourage democratic, child-led approaches to resolving conflict, giving pupils the skills and confidence to work through disagreements respectfully and independently

Tailored Support for Those Who Need It

For pupils requiring additional help, we provide:

  • Targeted interventions such as Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Talking and Drawing sessions.
  • The calming presence of our visiting Reading Dog.
  • Strong partnerships with external services, including CAMHS, to ensure families receive the right support.
